For this experience, I took an honors seminar called Bennis Leadership Accelerator. The class was focused on the book On becoming a leadership by Warren Bennis, The Leadership Challenge by Kouzes & Posner, and Both/And Thinking by Wendy Smith & Marianne Lewis. Each class extended the material we read the week before. It focused on looking at us as a leader and how we can use it in the future. Over the semester, we completed three primary assignments: Best Self Profile, Problem Solving Leadership, and Personal Purpose (all featured below).
I learned a lot about myself. One lesson I found more impactful was handling moments challenging our values. We called them crucible moments. At that moment, I had to decide whether it was worth my time to respond and how to address it, and that lesson reminded me of my passion and capacity. The course challenged me to look inside myself and remind me why I continue as a leader.
As I continue my leadership journey with being RA and Circle K, I found new ways to evaluate and think about being in a team. I appreciated the new approach to leadership that the course provided me. Going into the class, I was worried it would be the introductory leadership course I had done a thousand times before, but this course was a breath of fresh air. A whole new perspective and approach to leadership made me look deeper into my leadership approach than ever before. I will use what I learned in this course as I continue my college career and beyond!
